How many moving totes do I need?

This is the guide we use for our packages. Think of it as a starting point, then adjust for your own things.

Prices are before Ohio sales tax. Every package includes 1 moving bag and 1 dolly.

• Books and paper. They are dense, so you pack fewer per tote to keep it liftable.
• Kitchen items. Dishes, glasses and small appliances need padding, so they fill totes faster.
• A home office. Files, equipment and supplies usually need their own totes.
• Garages, basements and hobby rooms. Tools and craft supplies add up quickly.

Clothes, bedding and towels pack light. Use the moving bag that comes with every package for soft items, and save totes for things that need a rigid container.

Say you are moving out of a two-bedroom apartment with a lot of books. The 40-tote package is $169 for 14 days. If you decide you need 6 more totes, add them at $4 each: $24. Your rental total is $193 before sales tax. If you realize you need more time, extra weeks for 40 totes are $60 each.
