Local move checklist
A simple timeline for a local move, from four weeks out to your first week in the new place.
Four weeks before
- Set your move date and confirm keys, closing or lease dates.
- Sort and donate what you do not want to move.
- Book your tote rental once you know your dates. Weekends and the end of the month are popular for moves, so booking early gives you more choices.
- Start a list of who needs your new address.
Two weeks before
- Start packing rooms you use least: guest rooms, garage, basement.
- Schedule utilities and internet at the new place.
- Arrange time off work and any help for moving day.
The last week
- Pack the rest of the house and label every tote by room.
- Pack a first-night tote with chargers, toiletries, medications and basic kitchen items.
- Confirm delivery and pickup details with us and tell us where to leave the totes.
Moving day
- Stack totes by room with the heaviest at the bottom, and use the dolly.
- Load the first-night tote last so it comes off first.
- Do a final walk-through of closets, cabinets and the garage.
After the move
- Unpack room by room, starting with the kitchen and bedrooms.
- Empty totes go back to us on your pickup day. If you need more time, ask us before the date.
- Update your address with the post office, banks and your employer.
